Member Ralph Berger and his steel sculptures were featured in a July 8, 2009 USA Today article about art galleries at airports. Ralph's work has recently been part of an exhibition at Asheville Regional Airport.

Working Process, an exhibition of sculpture by member Robert Winkler, is July 2 to September 20, 2009 at YMI Cultural Center in Asheville. The exhibition, which includes maquettes, models, and works in progress, as well as finished works, traces the evolution of Robert's signature style from 1990 to 2009. It offers a look at his process for developing ideas and working through design and structural problems before executing his full size works.

Gallery hours are 10am-5pm Tuesday through Friday (Saturday by appointment). Admission is free. Field trips from all school levels are encouraged, and guided tours can be arranged.

Salisbury Sculpture Show - Salisbury, North Carolina
NEW: Look Homeward, Angles (below at right), a sculpture in cedar by member Robert Winkler, was selected as "Best in Show" at the inaugural Salisbury Sculpture Show in Salisbury, North Carolina by juror Joe Rowland of Somerhill Gallery in Durham (formerly in Chapel Hill). Sculptures by members Harry McDaniel,Dale McEntire, and Martin Websterare also among the 14 selected for exhibition. The outdoor sculptures are on display from April 1, 2009 through January 11, 2010. Photos of the sculptures installed in historic downtown Salisbury are now online.UNC-TV aired a segment on the Salisbury Sculpture Show on June 18th and 19th on North Carolina Weekend

Sculpturama 2009 will be September 13, 2009 through October 24, 2009 at the Tryon Fine Arts Center in Tryon, North Carolina, about 50 minutes south of Asheville. The exhibition, in its twelfth year, is sponsored by Tryon Painters and Sculptors with the support of the Polk County Community Foundation. All sculptors 18 years and older are invited to participate in the exhibition, juried this year by Mountain Sculptors member Dale McEntire. Hand-deliver sculptures Tuesday & Wednesday, September 1 and 2, 2009 (9:30am - 3pm) with $25 entry fee (or $35 for two entries). Awards totaling $1,750 will be given. The Sculpturama 2009 entry form is online.

Mountain Sculptors showcased smaller sculptures created by 19 of its members in the fourth annual Mountain Sculptors small works show at Vadim Bora Gallery in downtown Asheville, NC, December 19, 2008 through January 2, 2009.

The annual exhibition celebrates smaller pieces created by sculptors who often work in large dimensions. “The Works” brought everything down to size (two feet and under) for intimate study, calling attention to detail, technique, style, and medium.

Ralph Berger, Vadim Bora, Barron Brown, Richard Conn, Elizabeth Franklin, Len Fury, Dan Howachyn, Ina, Karen Ives, Harry McDaniel, Dale McEntire, Catherine Murray, Linda Pannullo, John Richards, Ripp Smith, Julia Stout, Tekla, Martin Webster, and Robert Winkler showed sculptures in a variety of media – from steel, plastic, wood, and glass to copper, bronze, marble, and concrete.

Jurors for this exhibition were Mountain Sculptors members Tekla, Ripp Smith, and Vadim Bora.

HandMade House at The Ramble
HandMade House at The Ramble is a collaboration between HandMade in America and Biltmore Farms Homes to create a HealthyBuilt model home incorporating the work of 116 regional artists and craftspeople. This is part of HandMade's initiative to encourage architects, landscape architects, interior designers, developers, builders, and homeowners to involve artists in the early stages of planning so art and craft can be effectively integrated into the home and landscape. The Ramble is in Biltmore Forest, south of Asheville.
Mountain Sculptors members participating in HandMade House were Ralph Berger, Stefan Bonitz, Barron Brown, Paul Lundquist, Dale McEntire, Tekla, Bob Wagar, and Martin Webster.



Upstairs sculpture exhibition 2008 - entrance - upper level
Mountain Sculptors presented a group exhibition of members' work at Upstairs Artspace in Tryon, North Carolina from August 29 through October 4, 2008. A total of 78 works by 20 sculptors were featured in the show titled "Space Shifters", filling both levels of the 3,000 square foot gallery.
     The featured artists were Ralph Berger, Barron Brown, Marty Cain, Richard Conn, Elizabeth Franklin, Len Fury, Dan Howachyn, Ina, Larry King, Harry McDaniel, Dale McEntire, Catherine Murray, Joseph Race, John Richards, Ila Seltzer, Ripp Smith, Julia Stout, Tekla, Martin Webster, and Robert Winkler.



RiverSculpture at Reynolds Mountain near Asheville, NC
The third annual RiverSculpture contemporary outdoor sculpture exhibition was September 27, 2008 through January 5, 2009 at a spacious new location at Reynolds Mountain in Woodfin, just north of Asheville - open dawn to dusk. Artists exhibiting included Mountain Sculptors members Ralph Berger, Marty Cain, Richard Conn, Dale McEntire, Catherine Murray, and Robert Winkler.



The work of six Mountain Sculptors members was included in Kaleidoscope: Contemporary Landscape Sculpture, an exhibition on view at The North Carolina Arboretum in Asheville, NC from April 1 through October 31, 2008. Members in the exhibition were Ralph Berger, Barron Brown, Ila Seltzer, Julia Stout, Martin Webster, and Robert Winkler.

Dale McEntire - Night Lotus
Mountain Sculptors member Dale McEntire's carved stone sculpture Night Lotus was selected as one of ten works for display through June 18, 2009 at the Cary, N.C. Town Hall Campus at 316 N. Academy Street for the inaugural Cary Visual Art Outdoor Sculpture Competition and Exhibition.



Mountain Sculptors members Fred and Kato Guggenheim were commissioned to create a major sculpture that has been installed in Shenzen, China. They are also among the artists selected for the Southern Living showcase home at Whisper Mountain, North Carolina.
